Royal Orchid Restaurant
I guess you never know
Reviewed by debunker on March 16, 2011
This outfit has 3 or so restaurants in a 50 mile radius, and I am guessing one qualified chef that circulates between them. Sometimes the food is wonderful, and sometimes it is just plain bad. So far, weekends in Montpelier seem fairly safe. Anything else is up for grabs.

Kismet
Lost what it had...
Reviewed by debunker on March 14, 2011
I got a bad cup of weak coffee, a really awful BLT (deep fried bacon, arugula, and 1/2 cherry tomatoes on sugary soggy fall-apart bread), deep fried potatoes (bad tasting fryer oil!) with 1/6 of a deep fried beet for my "roasted root vegetables," and a whole lot of attitude in case I didn't get the message about how great they think they are. The big loss to us all, is that Kismet used to do a few magical things very well at the old location, but that's just a faded memory now ...that Kismet apparently believes they can do no wrong.

Careful!
Reviewed by debunker on February 1, 2011
It is usually a sure thing, but lately the food has been noticeably over-sauced and over-salted. We really did not enjoy our last visit, and will not be back for a long time. With so much going for it, it is really a shame when the food is not good.

I am crazy about the banh Mi here! #1 is killer, and #4 & #5 are also amazing. Only $4 each, how can you go wrong?

I keep coming back!
Reviewed by debunker on February 1, 2011
I have been to Maxis about 5 times now, and it is just great. The grilled chicken sandwich is super, the philly cheesesteak is amazing. The meatloaf and the salmon and the side of hash are really great as are the fries and side veggies. I am surprised that it is not busier there at dinnertime... the other night pints of Switchback were like $2.75.

I didn't get sick!
Reviewed by debunker on January 20, 2011
My dining partner refused to eat what was served, but I tried everything... and wished I hadn't. We left most of it, and I was worried for about an hour... but I didn't get sick. That is the best thing I can say for our $20 lunch. Never had Japanese food so poorly conceived.
