Blue Stone, The
STOOOOOOO PID!
Reviewed by debunker on May 2, 2013
The "Blue Stone Pizza" is their SIGNATURE PIE. We ordered it every time we came... it was fantastic! The last one (AND I DO MEAN THE LAST ONE!) we ordered was simply awful! The staff showed us that lo and behold, they truly had changed the ingredient list right there on the newly printed (unknown to us) menu! So.... you changed your signature pizza from something good to something bad... what other brilliant marketing decisions have you made? The only other thing I noticed was that it looks like business has fallen WAY off. Go Figure?

good location for a better place...

It is great to be able to get off the highway and grab a bite. But this place is off my list now because it is just plain a silly place... unless you intend to eat a loaf of bread... which is what is OK here. The soup & sandwiches are not interesting or particularly good, but they are beaucoup expensive! The only sandwiches offered are ones in the fridge that are wrapped and have been there a while. There are staffers at the counter, but as far as I can tell, they don't actually do anything but ladle out some soup and take your money. There are some side salads in plastic containers that are also pretty bland. All in all, there is really not a cafe here, just where they have the red hen bread, which I am getting pretty tired of as well.

Will NOT be Back!

This was our third or 4th time here, and we were putting it into our rotation... we saw great potential, and have had some almost terrific dishes. We really wanted to like this place. This trip was, however, our last! It took just one small bite of the 3 items we ordered to understand that we could not possible eat any of them. One dish was ice cold and plated all wrong, the others tasted of age & neglect and dishwater. Something was seriously not OK! We told our server, who informed us that it was the "same recipe"... I have heard this hateful line before in Asian restaurants, and do I care? No. Bad is bad! We paid for one thing which we took with us and tossed into the garbage. Just the one small bite we each had had both of our stomachs in an uproar for an hour or 2. As far as I am concerned this place is done.

Great Potential!

The menu is challenging, never finding it's stride as to whether this is a Chinese of Japanese resto. Japanese seems to be the language spoken behind the counter, so that is what we tried, and it was pretty good! The Veggie Udon was just what the Dr. ordered on a freezing day (it was nice & warm in the resto by the way--- unusual for Asian joints) and everything from the sushi bar was good enough for Barre. I wouldn't get too adventurous there, however, as there was a lot of sweet sauce in the mix. What are they trying to hide? The Miso soup was awful(?)... isn't that a sacrilege? The shumai were spectacular! Would like to go back for dinner, but it seems that it's either Katsu or Chinese (or Thai?)... and why assume any are good? I have heard that the string beans are good, but have no idea what to order with them. Hope someone has some thoughts...

LUNCH AMAZING!
Reviewed by debunker on February 12, 2013
I do not pull my punches when it comes to this joint, but something BIG has changed! Went to LUNCH, and it was like a trip to Europe. Nothing like the dinners... everything tasted fantastic and was gorgeously plated with bright swirls of sauce. Seriously a different place altogether. It seems that the new Chef is starting to make some inroads, and there may be light at the end of the tunnel for Neci on Main. Lunch was 5 star in every way. It was so good that the next week we went back for dinner... but that was clearly controlled by the old guard and was disappointing in every (same old) way. But lunch--- WOW!

Amazingly great place!

Usually I don't like this kind of place... made-up "gastronomy" aimed at college kids... but MLC stands alone in that they can COOK! The meats and salads were deep and satisfying, the sandwiches assembled carefully and with elan. Even the customers were a good looking bunch. I heartily recommend the porchetta and the corned beef (they have a funny name for it)... and I will return soon to see what the do with lamb. I can't remember the last time I went somewhere and reported that everything was "just delicious." This is the place.
