Bluebird Tavern
I think I'm done
Reviewed by Jessica on March 11, 2012
I've eaten at the Bluebird 3 times now, twice at the old location and once at the new. I don't think I'll be back. It is not that the food is bad, but it is WAY overpriced for what it is. For the cost, I expect something really special, but the plates are hit or miss. Both times I've tried something with beef (including a sirloin that approached $30) parts of the meat were tough and chewy. A head lettuce salad I had most recently cost $12, but tasted no different than a salad I could get at other establishments for several dollars less. Again, it is not that the food is bad, but you can get the same quality and flavors elsewhere for a better price.

Peking Duck House
Love the Korean Menu
Reviewed by Jessica on November 12, 2011
We hit up Peking Duck House after the article in Seven Days. We will definitely be back. Both dishes we got off the Korean menu were fabulous (Bibimbab and Kimchibokum). We also loved all the small plates that came with the meal. You can't get food with those flavors anywhere else that I know of in the area. I had never been in the building before, and it is quite stunning. The meal was very reasonably priced as well. We can't wait to go back.

Alice's Table
Have I got a deal for you...
Reviewed by Jessica on August 27, 2011
Friday night BBQ at Alice's Table is a great deal! For $15.95 you get: 1)A free pass to take the tram to the top of Jay peak 2) All you can eat BBQ and fixings 3) A plate of graham crackers, marshmallows, and Ghirardelli chocolate with which to make s'mores by a lovely fire pit under the stars 4) a receipt that is good for 10% off their Thursday all-you-can eat Tapas or Wednesdays 2 for $25 meal. The food is pretty good, definitely worth the deal. The fried turkey was outstanding, and there were some spicy jalapeno corn muffins to sop up the BBQ sauce of your choice . I didn't try it all but there was plenty to choose from (ribs, kielbasa sliders, mac and cheese, veggie lasagna, a variety of salads and slaws, apple crisp, salad). However, the s'mores clinched it for me. It was lovely to finish the meal by lounging outside in Adirondack chairs by the fire. I wish we had known to go early enough to take advantage of the included tram ride, but now we know, and will definitely be back before this great deal ends in October.

Best Chinese
Reviewed by Jessica on August 17, 2011
The authentic selections (formerly the pink menu) is the way to go here. It's the best Chinese I've had in Vermont. I am always shocked (and a little worried) that it isn't more crowded when we go. Go eat there, people! You won't be sorry, and we need to keep this place around.

bevo
Just OK
Reviewed by Jessica on June 29, 2011
Lunch for two a bevo a week ago was only ok. The meal started great with the complimentary bite-sized cheddar biscuits and chive butter- these were my favorite part. We also ordered the nachos a la Tortilla Flats, which were very enjoyable. Unfortunately, the entrees left much to be desired. I had the lobster roll. Though it was great to have large chunks of meat, they were slightly overcooked, which made for a dry sandwich (since their lobster roll has no mayo). The homemade potato chips that came with the roll were overcooked to the point of being inedible. My date's mac and cheese tasted like budget wedding buffet alfredo. We decided bevo would be a good place for drinks and snacks (nachos, cheese biscuits), but we will not go there for a meal again.

Farmhouse Tap & Grill, The
Love the speakeasy
Reviewed by Jessica on February 19, 2011
Both times I've eaten at the Farmhouse I've enjoyed immensely. I love the social atmosphere and the cheese choices. However, my visit to the speakeasy is what drives me to review. The cozy, low-lit atmosphere, the laid back and happy crowd, and the excellent beer choices ensure that we will be back. This is a great place to break yourself out of winter hibernation. It's probably good I don't live in Burlington or I might spend a little too much time drinking beer in front of that fireplace.
