Bamboo Hut
So Good
Reviewed by Joan on December 13, 2011
Great takeout option for NNE and north part of ONE residents. My husband and I love this place. The Burmese Noodles and the Spring rolls are our favorite. The green curry is also good and all portions are big enough to share. If you go, don't miss the Vietnamese coffee and/or the mango sticky rice for a dessert.

What Happened?

Very disappointed in food on our last visit. Where has the creativity gone? Lobster Rolls & Fish and chips " ethnic street food"?? I can drive 4 hours to the coast for that. Food wasn't that great. I've NEVER left Duende saying that before. Ever. I'm always up for changin' things up with a place, if it's heading in the right direction... Bummed out by menu and changes, if it's not broke don't fix it!

Hey guys, I've been coming here for ages but just saw a seasonal veal on the menu and was pretty disappointed. I'm a vegetarian but I'm certainly not a "preachy" one, I'm fine with other people eating meat around me and never stare down at people for it. However, cruelty is cruelty and, quite frankly, veal is cruel. You should know better. Shame on you!

We were here this weekend and the food is just out of this world amazing! It's our third time back. The first two times were special occasions but now we've decided we're not waiting for special occasions to enjoy the divine , food , service and ambiance of Hen of The Wood!

Mary's Restaurant at The Inn at Baldwin Creek
Mediocre Food and SCARED staff!
Reviewed by Joan on May 7, 2010
I think the previous post hits the nail on the head! My husband have been here twice now and get the same feeling the previous poster did. The old school strict management seems to really hold this place back! I don't get the sense that other the chef in the kitchen , apart from the owner, are allowed much freedom for culinary expression. Things coming out of the kitchen are mediocre at best. Not only that but the atmosphere in the staff is not relaxed-probably because one of the owners strolls around seems to make them even more nervous. Friends of ours who got married 2 years ago chose Mary's and had a similar experience with their management. They described them as being slightly hot headed, controlling, and at times rude to the wedding guests!Seems to confirm what other folks are already feeling about this place. With so many great places cropping up in Bristol-my opinion is GO to Bobcat Cafe! It's an exceptional meal fun relaxed atmosphere with creative chefs!

August First Bakery & Café
Vegetarians are people too!
Reviewed by Joan on April 13, 2010
Ok, I am writing this comment because I know numerous people who have broached this issue with August first but still it hasn't seemed to make an impact. So, I would like to mention again-Please pay attention to your community vegetarians. We would prefer a creative sandwich and options that involved more than cheese tomato and hummus! In fact a group of us were just having a conversation about this at a dinner party and all were in agreement-good atmosphere but, c'mon now-it's Burlington a daily vegetarian panini option wouldn't hurt you. Also, last 2 times my husband were there our order was very messed up (how many people do you know that like lettuce grilled on a panini?)It was also CHAOTIC in there and the owner shooed us along to get to the next person in line. Please keep up with popularity by still providing friendly service and please listen to the demands of your veggie locals.I work on pine street so my colleagues and I decided- We'll give this place one more shot and then we're going else where. Perhaps August First could use some healthy competition in the area to step up the game a bit.
