Fathers Day Breakfast
Reviewed by AJBike on August 11, 2010
My daughter took us out for breakfast on fathers day. The building is beautiful , and the interior excellent. service was a bit haphazard but I attribute that to just opening and a very busy morning. Food was just OK, biscuits in the sausage and biscuits were very dry and the gravy had too little sausage in it. The bacon that came with the eggs was so undercooked it was inedible and the total price of $43 (before tip) for four seem very expensive for what we got. All in all a decent addition to the non-existent dining scene in Milton ( would someone, ANYONE, PLEASE build a nice pub with good food in Milton). Seriously email me if you have interest !!

Great for Dessert, even Better for Supper !
Reviewed by AJBike on July 9, 2010
My wife and I noticed they were open last week after a meal at Tiny Thai so we decided to stop by for dessert. Well the creme brulee cheesecake, cappuccino gelato and incredible service was so much fun we vowed to come back son for supper. Wednesday night my wife had an unusual mid-week night off so we decided to head over for supper. It was very warm,(middle of our heat wave) inside as the air conditioning just wasn't keeping up but that did not stop us from having a great meal. we decided to sample a bit of everything,s owe started with the homemade chips and gorgonzola dip , GET THIS if you go, it was great, salty, cheesy, crunchy, a perfect start. We then got the arugula and candied walnut salad with orange slices and cheese. Again a really great mix of flavors, sweet, sour, peppery, a great salad and I don't usually do salads. For the main , it was too hot and sticky to try the homemade pasta but others had and it looked great. I put together my own flatbread, parmesan, chicken and roasted garlic. The chicken was a bit dry but the roasted garlic more than made up for it, whole cloves roasted until they literally were able to be spread like butter across the flatbread YUMMY!! Dessert was once again Vermont made gelato, raspberry, tasting every bit like fresh fruit and my new favorite cappuccino. Service is some of the best I've ever seen. Maybe not totally familiar with the menu and wine list (serviceable, the house wines are very good, the rest of the list could use a little sprucing up) but MORE than willing to find out answers for you and do it with a smile. Top that off with a very personable owner, who took alot of time to talk to us both nights and you have a really great dining experience. Prices are a bit high (especially the small flatbreads0 But willbe adjusted soon. The old Foodies space never looked so good and being two doors down from Tiny Thai makes this a must go to location in Northern Vermont. Highly recommended !!

Blue Paddle Bistro
Excellent meal and close to home.
Reviewed by AJBike on June 22, 2010
Fathers day evening and my dear wife wanted to treat me to supper. I didn't really want to drive all the way to Burlington so we decided to try Blue Paddle and see if we could get a seat at the last minute. This was our second visit, but the first eating inside, (no reservation last time, ate outside, basically in the parking lot, not suggested). The downstairs dining room is small but cozy and has great art work on the walls, (gardening ladies on our visit). We started with the crab cakes and these are a must order, Excellent !!Then we each picked one of the specials but they both had some aspects we weren't sure of; my wife went with the Sea Bass but it came with a corn and black bean medley and my wife is not a bean fan and I chose the duck over a spinach, blueberry and asparagus salad which came with mustard/pomegranate dressing and I normally do not like mustard so I asked if I could have another dressing. The chef came to visit us and first gave me a taste of the dressing as she said she really didn't have another dressing that would tie all the elements of the dish together. The dressing was really good, fruity which just a slight hint of mustard, she then told my wife the corn and beans were all mixed together and she could leave it off the plate or try and give her more corn than beans. Well we trusted the chef and appreciated her coming to talk to us about her dishes and needless to say there was not even one TINY drop of either dish left when we finished. Desert was a lava cake ala mode and truthfully it was WAY to big, it could of fed 4 people easily. The wine list is large enough but not very adventurous (OK We are wine snobs). The service was great, from Mandy at the door, to all the wait staff, to a great bartender (thanks for the Pinot taste and a great pour on the port). All in all an incredible experience and to top it off very close to home (Milton) WE WILL BE BACK !!

Tiny Thai Restaurant
Very good but LOUD !!
Reviewed by AJBike on June 8, 2010
Just a quick comment as I have reviewed the Essex location before. We wanted to go to Our House but they were full (went the next night see review)so we dropped in here. Food was great as always and very reasonable, service was very good but be aware maybe because of the low ceilings or the larger number of tables but it is VERY noisy in here, almost to the point of conversation being impossible. Be warned not a good romantic date place.

Our House
Good but needs a bit of work
Reviewed by AJBike on June 8, 2010
After trying to get in on Friday we came back early on Saturday. Our server was very good, and for the most part the food was also. We started with the crab cake appetizer, except it really wasn't, as it came out exactly with the meals. OOPS need to work on that guys, it was an Excellent crab cake but at $10 I would of liked to see a bit more on the plate. The same can't be said for the meals, they are huge, my wife had the Yardbird, and the bacon/cheddar bread pudding was incredible, definitely the star of the night BUT the chicken itself, not so much, tough to cook a small whole chicken so its all done properly, and while the thighs were perfect the breasts were WAY over done, dry and tough. My burger was also overcooked but not too bad I asked for medium and got medium well, that said it was very flavorful and topped with pulled pork was a HUGE meal. Next time I will skip the rather boring potato logs and ask for some of that bread pudding myself. No room at all for desert but strangely two out of the four deserts were all gone at 5 PM? Again need to work on that. And finally this is food that BEGS to be served with great beer and there is only 3 on tap and three in bottles, none all that interesting to boot. C'mon guys stock up. So a few rough edges to smooth out but we will be back and I will let you know how things go the 2nd time around.

Green Room, The
Restaurant Week Dinner
Reviewed by AJBike on May 19, 2010
My wife and I had a bad experience here a couple of years ago and had not been back. But after looking at all the menus for Restaurant week we liked this one the best and decided to give them another try and am I glad we did. For $25.00 each, we both started with a salad, Caesar for me herb and greens for the wife, both great but c'mon guys whats with the tiny plates, we know its a small salad give us some room to get to the greens. I had the quail with foie gras entree and my wife had fillet with peppercorn sauce and both were perfect, tender, perfectly cooked and very flavorful. For desert , chocolate mousse and butterscotch creme brulee. And a very reasonably priced Neyers Zinfandel went perfect with everything. All in all a great meal, ambiance is still a bit strange but sitting in the main dining room this time was MUCH better and our server was incredible. We will be back for sure.
