WOW
Reviewed by yummmmy on November 26, 2012
I stopped by for lunch this past saturday and had, quite possibly, one of the best sandwiches I have ever had the privilege of eating. The quality of the ingredients were evident, and it's obvious that everyone behind the counter cares about the product they put forth. The space looks amazing too. I will undoubtedly be back again and again and again.

Pizzeria Verità
A truly authentic experience
Reviewed by yummmmy on July 24, 2012
First things first - based on some of these reviews, it is clear there are more than a few folks in Burlington who don't understand Neapolitan style pizza. All those people who think the crust is doughy and burnt, please do a google search on these kinds of pies or stick to Zachary's. Now on to the review - the pizza is perfect. The crust has the perfect amount of chew, and it holds up well when topped with multiple ingredients. The sauce is perfectly tangy and sweet, and it does an excellent job of binding their cheese and dough for a perfect tasting margherita. Pizzeria Verita reminds me of some of the best places in NYC, and in some instances the pizza tastes better. Burlington is lucky to have such an authentic Neapolitan style place.

Bluebird Barbecue
Finally!
Reviewed by yummmmy on July 17, 2012
The food at Bluebird BBQ was absolutely mouthwatering. I've been to some authentic bbq places down south, including The Pit in Raleigh, and this place in lil old Burlington Vermont ranks right up there with them. I was able to try the ribs, the chicken, and the sausage. Out of the three, the sausage seemed the least authentic, but I still thought it was tasty. The ribs were very very tasty. Fall off the bone (a requirement) and we're nicely smoked. I will admit, that robust fruity smoke flavor of some of the more well known places wasn't there, but they were still damn good ribs. For sides, I thought the mac and cheese and baked beans were the best. Incredibly filling and flavorful. Service was kinda meh (yes, meh). For instance we received our appetizer and entrees at the same time and the waitress only brought one spoon for dessert...it should have been obvious that me and my girlfriend were going to share. Other than that, this place is a must try. It's the best bbq you can get in Vermont... Or New England for that matter.

Pistou
Well, that was interesting
Reviewed by yummmmy on January 19, 2012
Went here for dinner - wasn't too impressed. But not necessarily because of how the food tasted. There is something about this restaurant that will keep me from going back for dinner, and I will try to debrief my thoughts in this review. I know Pistou is high end, and I love fine dining, but I just don't like this restaurant. For example, if I could I would eat at L'Amante every night of the week and gladly blow $150 a night. Good food, good ambiance, good people. But at Pistou, I feel like their efforts are too forced, and the experience feels disingenuous. The food is of high quality, and it tastes really good, but it's so in-your-face pretentious, that it feels out of place with the Burlington food scene. It kinda reminds me of a Louis Vuitton purse - the kinds that are littered with the LV logo all over it. My advice to the owners would be tone it down and keep the food simple and honest.

El Cortijo Taqueria Y Cantina
Damn good tacos
Reviewed by yummmmy on January 19, 2012
As a purveyor delicious cheap eats, I must say that the tacos at El Cortijo are both mighty tasty and mighty cheap. Easily the best tacos I've had in Vermont. I've been twice - The first time I had the carnitas and the carne, second time I had the lengua and chorizo. Out of the 4 that I've had so far, the lengua is the winner. Super tender, flavorful, the right amount of seasoning - this taco would win any lengua taco competition. I did notice that portion sizes seemed to have increased between visits. This is definitely a good thing as the first time around I found myself looking underneath my tortilla shell in hopes of finding more meat. Also, I was kinda bummed to see they do not double up on tortilla shells, like the more traditional taquerias in major cities do. The margaritas are stellar as well. I had two, and was left buzzing around downtown like a hummingbird to my next locale. All in all, El Cortijo is awesome. You can very easily have a nice, filling dinner for less than $20 a person, including tip. Considering the quality of the food and the location of the establishment, I'd call that a cheap night out.

Wooden Spoon Bistro
Really, Really, Really Tasty Food.
Reviewed by yummmmy on November 29, 2011
I've been here twice, and both times the food quality and taste were on-point. The first time we had the beef short ribs and caribbean salmon. My short ribs were cooked to perfection, and the sweet potato mash was incredibly tasty. My lady friend's caribbean spiced rice was probably the best tasting rice I have ever had, and her salmon was incredibly tasty. For my second visit I had the burger, and the meat quality and temperature was perfect. I wasn't too much of a fan of the toasted ciabatta bread, but the taste of the burger and toppings more than made up for it. Ambiance is lacking...white cinderblock walls don't do it for me...I feel like I am in a college dining hall when I am in there. I am sure with time and success, this will be improved. Overall, I give this place a solid A-.
