This trattoria has an urban lounge feel as well as New York-style, hand-tossed pizzas, Italian entrées, local beers, and creative martinis. Music most weekends.

I have actually been enjoying an occasional pizza here for the last year or 2, and then all of a sudden about a month or 2 ago it was like wow... they can't cook anymore! Then there was a lot of PR about how they are going "upscale" with a new chef from Stowe... so he came, put up a new menu, and we gave it a try. Big Mistake! This "chef' cannot cook at all! Ordered BBQ short ribs, and sent it back because they brought me a greasy glop of pot roast... said it was the "braised short rib". Waitress did not even know there were 2 short rib dishes offered on the menu... and I now know why. After quite a wait, they brought me the "BBQ short rib", which was an identical glop of pot roast... but someone had glopped on some BBQ sauce! It was simply awful! That is NOT BBQ SHORT RIBS. Btw, if you like pot roasted short ribs, be warned they only give you one small (1" x 2.5") piece for your $20+. That's because it is "upscale," you see. Nothing on the table was any good... the pasta was tough like it had been microwaved and the salads were poorly conceived, dressed and plated. All-in-all, this was the worst and the most expensive meal I have ever been served at any Positive Pie. I hope they get rid of this new "chef" fast, and find someone who has a clue. Positive Pie is a great place to hang out, but if they want to also be a restaurant they have to get serious about food. At this point they have hit rock bottom.

    Timing is Everything

This was the first time my wife and I had been to the Positive Pie 2 in several years. We are always looking for a nice positive place to have Sunday dinner. It has changed in to more than a pizza place and there are a nice selection of wines and Italian inspired en trays. We ordered salads, a bottle of wine and dinner meals. The waiter was helpful and suggested the salad was large so we decided to split a salad which was a good move as it was large and delicious. However 5 minutes later the waiter brought the dinners. He took them back and put them under a heat lamp so by the time they re-appeared they were quite dried out. It's kind of a pet peeve--but good timing in a meal is everything. We'll probably go back and order salads.

    Improvement

I am very ambivalent about this place. I want to like it, but the menu is risky at best... a little safer if you can substitute veggies or fries for any of the various risottos and mashs that otherwise get plopped on your plate. I stick mostly to salads & pizza, but have tasted some very nicely cooked entrees recently. I think they are a bit pricey, but if this is where you hang, you can get good food.

    NEW MENU DISAPPOINTING AS HELL!
Reviewed by debunker on January 2, 2010
It really looked like things were moving upscale at this formerly pizza-only resto. They added a bruschetta to die for, terrific mussels, and some steak & salmon options that, with some adjustments to the side dishes, were headed into the stratosphere. Then, all of a sudden, and within just a few weeks, a new menu appeared. GONE were the bruscheta, mussels and salmon... and they were replaced with pretentious slops and a bunch of bad ideas that even the waitstaff wouldn't dare to recommend (chicken under a rock???? come on now!) Stick to the pizza.

    much improved! Actually good!

It took a lot to get me back here, but now I am glad I gave them another try. The pizza was fantastic! other things from the kitchen were also excellent, as were the salads and the wines. I hope this is the new benchnark that they will hold to. Personally, I would stick to the pizza... but am willing to try some of their other offerings in the future.

    Disappointed.

My boyfriend and I were walking around Montpelier last weekend and were lured into Positive Pie II by the cool ambiance, appealing menu, and a 2009 Seven Daysie displayed out front. The hostesses and our waitress were lovely, and I felt like they were doing everything they could to ameliorate the inadequacies of the kitchen. I ordered the pork Marsala with risotto and seasonal vegetables, my boyfriend had the chicken Parmesan with fettuccine. Our salads came right away, but we then waited for our entrees for 45 minutes! The waitress seemed genuinely apologetic the whole time, checking in fairly frequently and brought us a complimentary basket of cold, soggy focaccia strips at one point. When the entrees finally came, we were unimpressed. My pork was tough and the risotto seemed undercooked - not al dente, simply undercooked. My boyfriend's chicken Parmesan was mostly okay but like the pork, rather tough.
