What a drag

I realize that the time between lunch and dinner, especially on a beautiful fall day, can be kind of crazy for a restaurant/bar but as a consumer I still expect to be treated fairly and respectfully. This was not the case on Oct. 12. Halverson's has always been our standard for app's and a drink, love the courtyard. But this time even though we stood by the seating station for 10 min. no one would seat us. then the hostess showed and told us we could not sit in the courtyard, sorry you had a hard day but no need to be rude, we weren't. Then though our server was sweet as could be, aparty that ordered after us got served first??? DIsappointment was had this day, too much raspberry sauce on brie, plus no silverware to eat it with. Oh well, chalk it up to the leaves falling from the tree.

Horrible Service
Reviewed by BigEater on September 7, 2008
Have eaten here a number of times. In the past I found the food to be good, if not spectacular (though sometimes close). It's a nice restaurant but way too crowded in the seating. My last two times there have been quite unsatisfactory from a service standpoint. On First Night, 2008, we had made reservations for 4:45pm and were not allowed to order from the dinner menu (they were serving dinner at 5pm). Being that it was First Night we had expected dinner to be available as it is at other restaurants downtown on that date. A few weeks ago I stopped in for lunch at 2pm and left before I got my food after waiting 40 minutes for a burger. You can understand that I was VERY p______ off and had asked one of the waitresses if she could help and was given the "I'm not waiting on your table" brushoff. I waited a good additinal 5 minutes (after the 40 minutes) before my waitress came with the food as I was walking away. What made this even worse is that other patrons who arrived after me had gotten their food.

Indifferent service
Reviewed by jph35609 on May 24, 2008
Halvorson's is in our rotation of downtown restaurants and is usually more than satisfactory. Last Monday, on a slow restaurant night, we dined with our adult children and my son's fiance. Our server was slow in getting to our table, missing in action for drink refills while our meal took about 30 minutes to arrive and did not bother to check back on our food. Had she done so, I could have better explained to her that the pasta toss that my daughter and I had, which I have had several times before, was not properly prepared. Instead of the "sun dried tomato pesto" sauce that the menu described, it was covered with some sort of cheesy cream sauce. I understand that mistakes happen and this didn't ruin our life, or even our evening. But there was no apology given for a meal we did not want to eat and no visit to our table or even a visible presence from management. The final straw for us was when the check arrived. Our meals had indeed been removed from the bill, but we had been charged a la carte pricing for the salad my daughter had and my bowl of soup, both of which came with the meal. It was more of a symbolic thing, I suppose, but with all of the dining choices available to us downtown, I think we will skip this place for a while.

great service but lacking vegetarian options
Reviewed by jmb81884 on May 21, 2008
being a lactose-intolerant vegetarian often leaves me with few dinning options but I can almost never find anything on the menu that i can actually eat here and i can usually at least find some thing at most places, even if i have to ask for no cheese. it's too bad because i like this place, they have always been extremely accommodating, i had a very large brunch party during graduation season last year and the service was incredible and everyone else loved their food, but i was stuck eating a veggie burger because there were no brunch specials that i could eat. but other than wishing there were more options for my annoyingly specialized diet, i have nothing but good to say about this place, i just can't really eat here unless i want a veggie burger.

If you are in a hurry or just want to relax this is the place for soup, salads and sandwiches.
