This trattoria has an urban lounge feel as well as New York-style, hand-tossed pizzas, Italian entrées, local beers, and creative martinis. Music most weekends.

  • There are better places

I've stopped in here several times over the years and I've always found it to be very uneven. Especially when you're ordering anything with meat on it. I don't think the kitchen staff has a lot of consistency. The service always takes much longer than I expect it to, and has made me late on more than one occasion, even when just stopping in for a cold sandwich at the take out counter in the back. The ambiance is nice, and if you don't mind waiting for your meal, then it's not a bad place to wait. But there are much better places in Montpelier that are more consistent with their product. I've stopped going because it just was no longer worth the gamble.

    Wasn't impressed

Positive Pie 2 was highly recommended so I decided to stop by for their all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. At first glance it looked pretty good: soup, salad, warm veggies, rigatoni w/sauce and 4 different types of pizza (cheese, pepperoni, and a couple of veggie types). The positives: the thin crust was great and I really liked the cheese pizza. The tossed salad was also nice with lots of fresh veggies. The negatives: the soup, rigatoni and sauce and pizzas were lukewarm. The salad dressings were unlike any I'd had before and not very flavorful. Flavor was also lacking on the 2 veggie pizzas. The waitress, although friendly, did not come by to refill our water glasses or clear off the dirty plates until it was time to pay the bill. At some point I may give this place one more chance; maybe it was an off day. However, my experience today left me thinking it was way over sold.

    Not just for pizza...

Have enjoyed PP2 pizza for a long time, but just sampled their pasta on Valentine's Day. The ravioli changes daily and the inventive ingredient combos are delicious. Also tried the eggplant parm. It was rich and tasty! Side salads were crisp and attractive, too.

    Still can't make a pizza

That was the last pizza I will ever order at Positive Pie. I saw one go by once and the people who ordered it said it was fantastic. So I ordered it, and it was disgusting. Did not look like the one those people ordered... and it was one of their specialty pies (eggplant w/ pesto). OK... maybe on Friday the 13th it is decent, but mine sucked. Soggy, wet and my own fault for giving them another shot. On the plus side, the new interior improvements are great and it is a mucho fun place to hang out. I see mostly sandwiches going by (even at dinnertime) so I will go that direction next time.

    best pizza in the valley

Positive Pie 2 is a real find. Dining room service is great the pizza is fantastic and they offer some really terrific salads. Be warned, however, the sandwiches, the eggplant parm in particular, are really substandard. This place also has the bonus of pizza by the slice and take out in the back of the restaurant. The only way to improve upon the offerings would be to diversify the toppings - how about some mac n cheese pizza or maybe a spicy black bean and avocado slice?

The pizza here is possibly the best pizza I have ever had.It is fresh and diverse and wonderful! The downside is the drinks are expensive and stingy. Best to go for a pizza and beer...yum
