There's a water wall and wooden canoe suspended over the bar at this artsy yet unpretentious restaurant, known as "The Paddle" by locals. The fare is savory and the menu changes regularly. Private parties happen in the upstairs dining rooms. Hours vary seasonally, call first.

Mid-way through our fifth year, we would like to thank all our faithful friends, new and old, who have supported The Paddle with a loyalty that is second to none. From Phoebe's innovative yet unpretentious cuisine, to our wonderful Paddle Crew, to the very essence of our little restaurant, we are always striving to provide an exceptional and memorable dining experience. For new folks interested in finding out why we get so many rave reviews (check out the customer feedback page on our new web site) hop in your car and come visit us.  Twenty minutes from Burlington, we're closer than you think! — Until we meet, Mandy Hotchkiss & Phoebe Bright
Excellent meal and close to home.

Fathers day evening and my dear wife wanted to treat me to supper. I didn't really want to drive all the way to Burlington so we decided to try Blue Paddle and see if we could get a seat at the last minute. This was our second visit, but the first eating inside, (no reservation last time, ate outside, basically in the parking lot, not suggested). The downstairs dining room is small but cozy and has great art work on the walls, (gardening ladies on our visit). We started with the crab cakes and these are a must order, Excellent !!Then we each picked one of the specials but they both had some aspects we weren't sure of; my wife went with the Sea Bass but it came with a corn and black bean medley and my wife is not a bean fan and I chose the duck over a spinach, blueberry and asparagus salad which came with mustard/pomegranate dressing and I normally do not like mustard so I asked if I could have another dressing. The chef came to visit us and first gave me a taste of the dressing as she said she really didn't have another dressing that would tie all the elements of the dish together. The dressing was really good, fruity which just a slight hint of mustard, she then told my wife the corn and beans were all mixed together and she could leave it off the plate or try and give her more corn than beans. Well we trusted the chef and appreciated her coming to talk to us about her dishes and needless to say there was not even one TINY drop of either dish left when we finished. Desert was a lava cake ala mode and truthfully it was WAY to big, it could of fed 4 people easily. The wine list is large enough but not very adventurous (OK We are wine snobs). The service was great, from Mandy at the door, to all the wait staff, to a great bartender (thanks for the Pinot taste and a great pour on the port). All in all an incredible experience and to top it off very close to home (Milton) WE WILL BE BACK !!

Great birthday meal!
Reviewed by anondiner1 on June 22, 2010
Everything about our Blue Paddle experience was wonderful. The warm, friendly staff welcomed us immediately and brought us to the "best seat in the house". My boyfriend and I enjoyed drinks and a salad to start, both were great. A little bummed about the lack of summer sangria that was mentioned on the website but that was so minor. The food was delicious. It was simple and just plain good. I had the chicken saute and my beau had the gorgonzola stuffed meatloaf. Portions were great, and the brownie sundae for desert was better than any birthday cake I've had. Thanks to Blue Paddle for a wonderful 29th birthday meal!

Always worth the trip
Reviewed by David Simkins on June 4, 2010
The Blue Paddle is our favorite 'date night' dining. The owners are intensely involved with the daily operations (Phoebe cooks, Mandy does everything else). Especially cozy in the winter time when summer islanders disappear leaving us locals space in the dining room. Well worth the trip from Burlington!

This was our first time visiting the Blue Paddle Bistro and certainly not the last. We were early for our reservations so rather than having us wait Mandy greeted us graciously and gave us a tour. We were able to enjoy the evening no rush at all. Dinner was one of the best I've ever had. Can't wait till next time.

You will be greeted warmly, treated exceptionally well and blown away by the service and quality of fare. You will be re-energized from this experience.I travel 324 miles on a regular basis just to make this one of my dining destinations. There is a lot to like and love at the Blue Paddle

Went for brunch on a glorious Sunday of Labor Day weekend. First time there and came away very pleased. First the best of BPB. Great, friendly service. Absolutely make you feel at home. Mandy, who had never seen us before, greeted us as if we were long lost friends. Absolute warm setting, quirky, home like setting, yet with an upscale bistro like setting. Finally the food was excellent, my wife had her favorite eggs benedict and I enjoyed my basic test for brunch/diner breakfast, eggs over easy, sausage, home fries and toast. All four were excellent, especially the home made bread for toast. My wife loved the yukon gold? home fries. Concerns. We arrived after 1:00 they serve brunch from 9:00 to 2:00) and they were out of the corned beef hash and the BLT. Ironically those were the two dishes we were going to order based on our review of their menu on their web page. Nonetheless, as I said, what we had was very good. Also my wife's first order of eggs benedict came out with eggs that were hard boiled. We do not send food back ever or maybe hardly ever, but we sent those eggs back. The waitress was cool and when the eggs reappeared carried by the chef Phoebe? who said with apologies "Its all about the eggs", we saw the complete Blue Paddle experience. South Hero is lucky to have these folks in their community.
