7 Nights says...
The motto at this historic firehouse is "Where heroes are made," but there's way more than sandwiches on the enormous menu. Everything from pizza to steaks is named after Vermont firefighters. Mexican specialties every night.

We were in Barre for a show at the Opera House recently. I diligently researched the area restaurants the days before we headed down. I chose Ladder for a variety of reasons, most notably because they served prime rib. We met one of our friends and ordered from the large menu, a carbonara, a calzone, and a prime rib. The servers were on point and the place has a very welcoming atmosphere. We had drinks and took it all in. When the food came I was appalled at the appearance of the prime rib, it was dry and hard, even the fat was stiff. It was obviously leftover rib from nights before and not warmed appropriately. I was totally let down. The other two dishes where both plentiful and visually appealing. The girls had nothing but nice things to say about them. Take your time to read the menu, and if you go for the rib, ask if it fresh.

Improved menu=better review

The menu at 1st was nothing to write home about but now that they have a larger one I am happy with this place. Swordfish Picatta(my staple favorite from Sarducci's) is served here and let me tell you it is real close to perfection. They have the balsamic drizzle down and the lemon and capers..wicked..a bit less swordfish and kinda tight with the pasta but 5 bucks less than the above mentioned. It should come with a small salad to make it a meal. Variety is the spice of life and they have something for everyone, even fussy people like me.

Good food in Barre

The food is great here if you're looking for casual food for a date or out with the kids. They have good burgers with lots of toppings, pizza, and generous portions for kids. The drink prices are very reasonable. Lots of parking out back and an outside deck. The waitstaff have always been excellent.

Could be better

Ive been twice, the wait staff is friendly enough..the menu s very limited for someone who doesnt eat meat. The pizza is thin crust and tasty but they need more topping..like artichokes, shrimp, spinach, banana peppers....the veggie burger is pretty tasty. I was satisfied but wish they had a less fried, seafood friendly menu.
