Best Seafood in Vermont?
Reviewed by AJBike on April 9, 2012
3.625 Not much atmosphere, its a market after all. Service (or at least the kitchen) can be chaotic, but the value for quality is off the charts. We will DEFINITELY be back. I dare you to find fresher or better prepared fish outside of going to the coast. Save yourself a three hour trip, eat here instead. Pretty good lobster and lobster roll
Reviewed by Catalina on October 18, 2011
My two companions each got the lobster roll, and I ordered a boiled lobster. The lobster roll was generous and not overly loaded with celery and dressing. The lobster was very good, and the french fries were also very good (and I am very picky about fries). All of the fish in the case looked worth trying. This restaurant is what it aspires to be.

Good seafood
Reviewed by BigEasy on August 30, 2011
My brother comes visits from Rochester NY every couple of months and loves this place; I do to. Fresh local perch and other seafood is great. It's the only place I can find frozen crawfish tails for my gumbo and jambalaya. Every meal I've had is fresh and tasty. We highly recommend this as a good food restaurant. It's not fancy, they do use paper plates but the prices are reasonable and the food is tasty;

easy low key dinner
Reviewed by Loeyvt on August 2, 2011
I like Rays as it is the closest thing we have to fresh seafood in Vermont. I have never been disappointed when I buy fish to cook at home, and I have been disappointed at every other fish market in Vermont. I like the Blue Point Oysters on the half shell, and a lobster. The fried food is heavy for my taste, and the broiled I can do at home just as easy. My lobster dinner there feels like a little seaside vacation, so I am happy. Also the chowders are very good. I like the casual atmosphere.

Best Clam Chowder in VT
Reviewed by WillingToTry on September 5, 2010
Aside from fresh seafood, Ray's Seafood has the best Clam Chowder in Vermont. Most of their menu consists of fried foods, which this family tries to not to indulge in, but their clam chowder consists mostly of you guessed it Clams! A few potatoes, celery and a perfect compliment of herbs make it our first made for winter meal every season.

Wish I could say more..

First of all, I am not one to complain about a restaurant after only visiting it once because in the restaurant business there are days that don't go as well as they should... I've worked in a restaurant for many years and I understand that. BUT my experience at Ray's was not because of a bad day. We ordered some fried seafood and the broiled swordfish meal. The fried calamari and clams were OK, but the swordfish was horrible. Not to mention I was eating it with plastic utensils on a paper plate. My green beans were clearly frozen, and my roll was stale. It was not worth $40 by any means and I couldn't stomach more than a few bites. This is definitely a place that shouldn't try to sell more than fried seafood meals.
