Life After Timms
Reviewed by Stunts Unlimited on July 24, 2008
Even though Chef Timms moved onto Bigger and Better things. Life after Timms is good, Same style cuisine. Brunch is not the elaborate buffet, but a plated affair, LOVED IT though. Keep up the good work VNCC. and please re-open to the public again...

A Great Dining Option
Reviewed by TonyO on April 30, 2008
I had the pleasure of dining at Jack's on the Green last night. The atmosphere is great with quite a vista overlooking the course to the West. The prices are more than far considering the quality, ambiance, portion sizes, and preparation. We had the Fried Calamari appetizer and the Crab Soup as starters. The calamari was crispy yet tender and was topped with an Asian influenced sweet and spicy glaze. I did not try the Crab Soup but it received a high grade. The entrees were a Grilled Pork Chop and Low Country Shrimp over Andouille Risotto. Both entrees were prepared and presented very well. A couple glasses of Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc (nice size pour and properly chilled) complimented to food very well. No desserts but a couple cups of coffee (a bit old judging from the color when cream was added) rounded out the meal. The total with tax (but pretip) was $74.00. I have paid significantly more at many restaurants in this area that do not have half the atmosphere or food quality. Hopefully the members don't put an end to this great option being open to the public.

Extremely Disappointing and Bad Steak
Reviewed by bird23 on April 25, 2008
I took my boyfriend to Jack's on the Green for his birthday dinner because I thought it would be nice to try something new away from the usuals in downtown Burlington, and based on the reviews it seemed like a good choice. Big mistake. The setting was nice and the dining room had a beautiful view of the golf course and mountains. It was pretty noisy for about the first 45 minutes because it was Men's Club night in the bar area. We started with caesar salads which were good, but I wouldn't say amazing. The bad part was yet to come. I ordered the Savannah Pasta which was good, although very rich with lots of cheese. My boyfriend ordered the New York Strip Steak. On his first bite he said he thought it tasted different, not like a strip steak. I tasted it too and agreed, but thought it was okay. He continued to force himself to eat it and got about half way through and had to stop. At this point he said it tasted really weird and bad. I tasted it again and had to spit it out in my napkin after two seconds. It was that bad. When the waiter finally came back (it was his first night, therefore the service was very erratic) we told him that the steak tasted very bad. He apologized and said he would tell the kitchen. We didn't really expect anything since half the steak had been eaten, but a complimentary dessert or slight discount on the steak would have been an appreciated touch. Noone from the kitchen came out to apologize, nor did the waiter mention it again when he brought us the check or when we left. My boyfriend was nauseous and felt like he was going to throw up for the rest of the night and still felt a little nauseous the next morning. The experience has turned him off of steak (previously one of his favorite meals) for a long time. Obviously we will not be going back.

Spectacular Meal
Reviewed by FoodyFoo on March 25, 2008
I had the pleasure of dining at Vermont National Country Club last week with friends. I can say from all of us what an enjoyable evening we had. The service was impeccable. Our waiter was most enjoyable and the bartender was a pleasure to speak with. Chef De Cuisine Justin Hershberg cooked an amazing meal to remember. The scallops served on sweet potato rissoto was spectacular. The rack of lamb melted in my mouth and the demi glaze on top was delicious. Everything we ate was well presented and even more enjoyable to eat. The mango sorbet in between our meal was incredibly refreshing. Thank you for opening to the public so we all can enjoy the dining experience. Great job Chef Mark.

Something Special
Reviewed by annjohntul on March 5, 2008
I am the "mother" in Liz Marino's review and I want to thank Chef Timms for an absolutely unexpected and spectacular dinner. I have travelled extensively within the US, Canada,Mexico and Europe and have consistently needed to have my food allergies managed in many different venues from airlines, to establishments where English (I speak only one language which these days is increasingly a handicap when traveling)is the secondary language, and multiple 5 star hotels/restaurants. Chef Timms, hands down, provided more attention and asked for more clarification of the allergies than I have ever experienced before and he created a meal and an evening which I'll never forget. My deepest appreciation and thanks to Chef Timms and his staff.

Something Special
Reviewed by LizMarino on March 5, 2008
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Jack's and although I had been there before, nothing prepared me for the level of service, quality of food and attention to detail that awaited us. My mother joined me with very specific and challenging dietary restrictions. Expecting to work with Chef Timms on modifying an already fabulous menu item, he instead created a seperate 5 course meal. We arrived to a hostess and wait staff who were not only expecting us, but had been made aware of the special needs of my mother. The attention to detail and willingness to learn about how to cook for her left me very impressed. The food was nothing short of spectaular. Chef Timms took the time to sit with us to discuss his choices and be sure my mother was comfortable and enjoyed her meal. It demonstrates a level of commitment that will never be forgotten. We will be returning to enjoy Chef Timms' amazing talents and Jack's spectacular service.
